Systemic corruption in Moldova must be eradicated like a cancerous tumor – through surgical means, believes Renato Usatii, chairman of “Our Party”. The politician wrote in a Telegram channel on Thursday that the presence of endemic corruption in the country was acknowledged in the traditional report of the US State Department.
“I have always exposed corruption, including “the theft of billion” airport concession, schemes at Termoelectrica. For over a year, I have been talking about schemes in gas and fuel oil procurement, smuggling, and many other corruption facts, known, including to President Maia Sandu. But the authorities of Moldova do not react to them,” wrote the politician.
The politician did not hide his satisfaction with the fact that even the US State Department noted the presence of high-level corruption in Moldova in its annual report.
“Even foreign partners can see that. At the same time, both legal institutions and the presidential administration pretend that nothing is happening,” Usatii wrote.
The US State Department published a report for 2023 analyzing the situation in Moldova. It notes that despite the reform of the judicial system and legislative changes aimed at combating corruption and increasing the independence of the judiciary, “corruption remains endemic”
