LEADER OF THE “OUR PARTY”: PENSION INDEXATION SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 20%, NOT 6%

“By indexing pensions at 6%, the ruling PAS party in Moldova continues to rob pensioners,” believes the chairman of “Our Party,” Renato Usatîi. The politician wrote on Monday on his Facebook page that this circumstance compels the party to insist even more strongly on early parliamentary elections.

“Today’s pension indexation of only 6% looks more like an unsuccessful April Fool’s joke,” he believes.

The leader of “Our Party” called such indexation “mockery of almost 700,000 pensioners and recipients of social benefits, whose pensions and allowances were indexed at a rate two times lower than the inflation rate.”

“This year’s indexation is also below inflation, and the most vulnerable citizens will become even poorer. Pension indexation should have been at least 20% to somewhat compensate for what was taken from the population last year,” the politician wrote. (In fact, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, inflation in 2023 was 4.2%, while pension indexation was 6%.)

“Our party” has submitted to the CEC a list of its Initiative Group to collect signatures of citizens of the Republic of Moldova in favor of a referendum on the dissolution of parliament and holding early elections.

“We are waiting for the registration of the Initiative Group to collect signatures for holding a referendum on the issue of early elections,” the politician wrote.
