The PAS party has turned “vetting” into a tool of “political blackmail” because of which Moldova’s justice appeared to be “hijacked” rather than “reformed,” Our Party chairman Renato Usatii wrote in his Telegram channel on Tuesday. He believes that “the so-called judicial reform promoted by PAS had nothing to do with a real fight against corruption.”
“It was a carefully planned plan to eliminate inconvenient judges and prosecutors and subordinate the justice system to the political interests of the authorities,” the politician believes, based on the statements of the former head of the Prosecutor’s Office Veronica Dragalin.
According to him, Dragalin’s statements confirm that the process of “vetting” and “prevetting” was only an imitation, while behind the scenes illegal methods of pressure and blackmail were used.
“Court decisions were dictated or coordinated with people from PAS. It is now clear why we lost the court in the case of initiating a referendum on early parliamentary elections. It is also clear why the court rejected our request to apply reduced gas tariffs retroactively – this decision would have returned about 3 billion lei to Moldovan citizens,” he wrote.
The politician believes that “Dragalin’s revelations that CNA collected dirt on judges and prosecutors not to restore justice, but to blackmail and control them is proof of political capture of state institutions.”
“PAS destroyed the very idea of reform and used justice as a political weapon. When you control prosecutors and judges with blackmail – you are not building a just state in the interests of citizens, you are building a regime in which thieves of people’s money are protected and covered,” Usatii emphasized.
The leader of “Our Party” speaks about the need to liquidate CNA and SIS and to create one independent body, which will fight corruption at the highest level, obeying not a political party, but the law and citizens.
