As a “diplomatic failure” of the ruling party PAS has regarded “Our Party” leader Renato Usatii the 31% trade duty for Moldova imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The politician wrote in his Telegram channel that Moldovan producers will pay for this “failure”.
He believes that this move by the U.S. authorities will be a direct blow to the national economy, especially to winemakers who have been investing, working and fighting for years to promote Moldovan wine abroad.
“The decision was taken at the very moment when Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu is “incognito” on a visit to the United States, paired with Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi. After Donald Trump came to power, it was clear that international relations required a wise reset and the incumbent Moldovan ambassador had to be urgently replaced, as I stated back in January 2025. What have the authorities done in recent months? Ignored the signals, continued to act with arrogance and without a clear strategy. Now the whole country is paying for it,” the leader of ‘Our Party’ said.
