LEADER OF “OUR PARTY” RENATO USATII CONSIDERS THE PAS PARTY AS THE “ENEMY” OF MOLDOVA’S INTEGRATION INTO THE EUROPEAN UNION
Moldova has obtained the status of a candidate country for EU accession thanks to Ukraine and not to the government of the ruling Action and Solidarity (PAS) party, says “Our Party” chairman Renato Usatii. Speaking on TVR Moldova on Thursday evening, the politician called PAS “the main enemy of Moldova’s EU integration.”
“Although PAS claims to be pro-European, all the stresses the country is undergoing serve the interests of opponents of Moldova’s European integration process. And if there was no war in Ukraine, Moldova would not have received the status of a candidate country for accession,” Usatii said.
At the same time, he noted that it does not mean at all that things in Moldova would have been better under the presidency of Igor Dodon.
“During the current government, Moldova received the biggest financial support from development partners, but the authorities did not have the necessary competence to use this money efficiently,” the politician said.
According to Renato Usatii, the PAS government not only failed to manage external resources, but also undermined the trust of development partners.
The Our Party believes that for this reason, the support of Moldovan citizens for the idea of joining the EU decreased by 10 percentage points between May 2024 and February 2025, according to the latest opinion poll.
