“The government’s attempt to dismiss Balti mayor Alexandr Petcov in the midst of the election campaign is “a direct blow to Our Party’s (OP) presidential candidate Renato Usatii,” OP leader said. At a briefing on Tuesday, Usatii stressed that “the attack on Petcov and Balti is an attack on me and a blow during the election period to Usatii, the only opposition candidate who exposes the dirty schemes of the authorities.”
According to Usatii, “the attacks started immediately after the creation of a ‘coalition of chaos’ in the municipality, consisting of Party of Socialists (PSRM), PAS and ‘some councilors of dubious origin’.”
“This “yellow plague”, instead of uniting the people, is fighting them, local councils and mayors all over the country! The NP will provide the necessary support to the people of Balti and Petkovu! Instead of focusing on the country’s problems – inflation, corruption, mass exodus, poverty, our leaders are using power to destroy the opposition and destabilize local authorities,” Usatii said.
The NP chairman addressed Moldovan councilors and mayors who are threatened by the authorities: “You can address me personally and I will personally support each of you!”.
According to Mayor Petcov, the government launched a procedure to remove him from office because he refused to approve the project of repairing the bridges without identifying alternative routes for heavy vehicles.
