“Our Party” condemns “political pressure” on the independence of the legal profession in the Republic of Moldova. The statement released by the party on Monday said that the way in which the Law on Advocacy was amended is “a gross infringement on the independence of justice and the principles of the rule of law.”
“We are witnessing an open attempt to establish political control over the legal profession and to eliminate the current leadership of the Union of Lawyers of Moldova,” the document says. “The principle of transparency was cynically ignored, and the law itself grossly violates the fundamental principle of the independence of the legal profession – guaranteed in all countries of the European Union,” says “Our Party”.
“The principle of transparency was cynically ignored, and the law itself grossly violates the fundamental principle of the independence of the legal profession – guaranteed in all countries of the European Union,” says “Our Party”.
Its leadership calls on President Maia Sandu not to promulgate this “shameful law that threatens the freedom and autonomy of the legal profession.”
The party expressed solidarity with the Union of Lawyers, which announced a general strike of lawyers from July 15 to 25.
