PAS PARTY HAS PREPARED AMENDMENTS THAT WOULD ALLOW VOTING BY MAIL TO THE DIASPORA OF USA AND CANADA
The ruling Party of Action and Solidairy (PAS) has prepared amendments to the Electoral Code that would allow voting by mail to the diaspora from the United States and Canada in order to ensure that Maia Sandu wins the presidential election already in the first round, said “Our Party” chairman Renato Usatii. At a briefing on Wednesday, the politician expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that “the right to vote by mail is deprived of Moldovan citizens in European countries, in Russia and Belarus.”
He also believes that the authorities resorted to such a “trick because the Moldovan embassies in the United States and Canada will count their own votes, which will ‘cheat’ as they should”.
Usatii demanded that the president and the PAS Party initiate a referendum to include the issue of early parliamentary elections.
“This government has plunged Moldova into the worst crisis the country has ever experienced in more than 30 years of independence. Today, entire industries are being destroyed, justice reform has failed, corruption is rampant, farmers are brought to their knees and pensioners are impoverished. Only early parliamentary elections can save the country from destruction and disappearance as a state. But the authorities do not want to leave… A referendum on early elections can be initiated by the president or one third of deputies. Why hasn’t the parliamentary opposition done it? We suggest that the authorities do it. We will send an official appeal of “Our Party” to the presidential administration and parliament. The deadline for a response is March 8,” the politician stressed.
Moreover, the leader of “Our Party” noted that if this condition is not met, he and his supporters will initiate the collection of 100 thousand signatures and register an initiative group to hold a national plebiscite.
“In it, we will add another question. Are you ‘for’ or ‘against’ the resignation of President Maia Sandu?”,” Usatii said, believing that “citizens are deadly tired of Sandu and the unprofessionalism of her ‘good people’.”
